You will probably grieve forever ~ and that’s a heavy thing to hear. It sounds like you’ll never fully move on. But I’m starting to think that’s not actually the tragedy. The tragedy would be loving someone deeply and having it mean nothing at all in the long run.
Grief doesn’t stay because you’re broken. It stays because something mattered, because someone mattered. Even now, every once in a while something will remind you of them, whether it’s a song, a place or a memory you weren’t expecting to come back. For a moment you can feel everything again. Not as sharp as it used to be, but still there.
And for a long time, maybe you thought it meant you weren’t fully healed yet, but maybe that’s not true. Maybe grief staying with you isn’t a sign you’re stuck. Maybe it’s just proof that the love was real, because yes, eventually you do become whole again. Your life grows, you laugh again, you build new memories that don’t revolve around that loss, but you probably won’t be the exact same person you were before, and maybe that’s the quiet truth people don’t talk about.
You do heal. You do become whole again. But you’re changed, and maybe there is something beautiful about that, because the parts of us shaped by love & loss are often the parts of us that make us the most human.
